£24 million worth of cars ALL BLOWN UP in the next Bond film

The producers of the new Bond film, Spectre, appear to have no qualms causing total destruction and squeezing in as much explosions and chaos as they can into the action scenes. We can expect to see the secret agent pursued, in his Aston Martin, past famous Italian landmarks - through the Vatican, past the Colosseum and along the River Tiber - by a baddie in a Jaguar C-X75. Hey, not a bad ride either, mister villain. To shoot the high-speed chase scene, seven custom-designed Aston Martin DB10 sports cars were destroyed. Yes, SEVEN. Yes, DESTROYED.

It was revealed that the wanton destruction of cars in the film cost production a massive £24 million (or US$36.3 million), making this the most expensive 007 movie to date, says the Daily Mail. While the iconic Aston Martin cars have long been a staple of the Bond series, it’s still a pity to see such beautiful specimens of a high-performance vehicle made to undergo such a terrible end.

"We set the record for smashing up cars on Spectre," chief stunt coordinator Gary Powell boasted to a media publication. "In Rome, we wrecked millions of pounds worth. They were going into the Vatican at top speeds of 110 mph. We shot one entire night for four seconds of film."  

The DB10 can reportedly accelerate to 60 in a mere 3.2 seconds, and has a top speed that surpasses the muse that designers turned to to design the DB10, that is the two-seater Vantage model which has a top speed of 180mph. Under the hood is an Aston Martin 4.7-litre V8 that debuted back in 2008. Of course, the DB10 will come with ejector seats…in the movie, that is – we highly doubt that they work properly in real life.

Besides the DB10’s, a Land Rover suffered the same fate when James Bond flew a plane through a barn, where the Land Rover, belonging to the villain, was minding its own business. 

Spectre will be released in the UK on 26 October, but Bond fans in other parts of the world will have to wait until 6 November. Be prepared to discreetly wipe away your tears when you see how the DB10’s meet their ultimate end. Until then, here's the trailer in case you haven't seen it yet.
