Honda yesterday rolled out its 25th million automobile built in the USA since 1982. The vehicle to achieve that historic milestone was a 2018 Honda Accord from its Marysville Auto Plant in Ohio.

The first Japanese automaker to produce cars there, Honda now has five manufacturing plants in the States. In the last four years, Honda has invested US$14billion to support production.

"For over 35 years, Honda associates in America have focused on building high quality automobiles for our customers, a passionate commitment that has enabled us to reach this production milestone," said Tom Shoupe, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Honda of America Mfg., Inc.

"This achievement truly represents 25 million customers who put their faith in the Honda brand and we will continue to honour this relationship with a focus on achieving the highest levels of quality and innovation in the next 25 million vehicles," he added.

An interesting coincidence (or not) is that are many families who work at Honda—including fathers and sons, couples, moms and daughters—which is the embodiment of the essence of their message: “Built by our family for yours”.

As part of the occasion, Honda announced an annual scholarship fund for students pursuing education in the fields of engineering, supply chain and manufacturing at historically black colleges and universities.

These scholarship recipients will be invited to interview for internships and co-op positions at Honda operations. An initial donation of US$25,000 will be administered through the Thurgood Marshall College Fund.

Some cool facts about the Honda Accord :
  • The company’s best-selling car in America since it debuted in 1976.
  • The 10th generation Accord was voted as the “2018 North American Car of the Year". (New styling, body structure, new powertrain, two new turbo engines and the world's first 10-speed automatic transmission for a front-wheel drive car.)
  • The word “accord” comes from Latin and literally means “to heart”.
