For the first time, Tesla’s Model S has outsold major brands in Europe. Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Audi have seen the aforementioned model outperform their flagship luxury units. These are the S class and 7 series that we’re talking about, which had dominated the market for many years.

The Model S has been outselling their German rivals in the upper-sedan category in the U.S in previous years, but this is the first time in Europe, with Tesla's market share surging. In 2017, sales of the Model S in Europe jumped 30% to 16,132; Mercedes’ S class sales grew 3% to 13,359 and BMW’s 7 series sales dropped by 13%, to 11,735 units.

In the U.S. market, however, sales of the Model S increased 9% to 28,800. It outsold its closest rivals, the Cadillac XTS (16,275) and the S Class (15,888), with both automakers posting drops of 27% and 16% respectively.

The Californian-based company is pushing on all fronts and its Model X, competing in the large SUV segment, had sales of 12,000 units—almost the same as the Porsche Cayenne and 2,000 units more than BMW’s X6.

We can’t wait to see what the numbers on the delayed Model 3 will pull in once Tesla’s production issues are solved. But as Elon Musk said not too long ago, “Great companies are built on great products.”

Elon and his team of ‘Musk-eteers’ are doing one heck of a job!
