Do we now need a Passport for Planet Porsche ('cause the cars it builds are out of this world)? Not quite, but not completely off. Automologist ATHERTON tells us about this new access to automotive heaven.

Porsche has always been about making cars fast yet elegant, engineered marvelously AND easy to drive just about anywhere. Porsche now wants us to get a feel of its cars and how it blends in with our lives.

Recently, Porsche Cars North America, Inc. (PCNA) has come up with a programme called the Porsche Passport which allows individuals to get a feel of 22 cars in their lineup—a subscription programme to its new sports cars and SUVs, in other words. Members will gain flexible access to Porsche vehicles via a mobile app, and enjoy frequent vehicle exchanges and unrestricted mileage for those 22 models.

Developed together with Clutch Technologies, PCNA will conduct the pilot programme in Atlanta, where both companies are headquartered.

"Our Strategy 2025 vision is to be the most aspirational brand in a new era of mobility and consumer expectations. Catering to customers' desire to experience our sports cars in new ways is a part of our core strategy," said President and CEO of PCNA, Klaus Zellmer. "With Porsche Passport, we now offer our customers a simple and flexible driving solution at their fingertips."

Porsche Passport has two memberships plans called “Launch” and "Accelerate": -

1) Launch
For a monthly fee of US$2,000, you get on-demand access to eight model variants, such as the 718 Boxster and Cayman S, as well as the Macan S and Cayenne.

2) Accelerate
For a monthly fee of $3,000 you get on-demand access to 22 model variants, such as the Porsche 911 Carrera S, the Panamera 4S sports sedan, the Macan GTS and Cayenne S E-Hybrid SUVs, in addition to the vehicles offered in the "Launch" package.

Subscription includes tax and registration, insurance, maintenance, and not forgetting detailing. The app can be downloaded on both Apple and Android devices, but with a one-time registration fee of US$500. A background and credit check is conducted for membership approval.

"Porsche Passport will provide increased choice and flexibility for new target groups in the Atlanta market," said Vince Zappa, President of Clutch Technologies. "Clutch is proud to be the enabling technology behind the service."

The whole idea for this is to provide users various options to match their driving and journey as a whole. Will this programme be launched and accelerated, no pun intended, throughout the rest of the world? Why not, I say.
