Five of Lionel Messi's Cars - the First One is "Wow", the Last One is...er...Embarassing

Lionel Messi's car collection is nowhere near (in fact, very very far below) that of his greatest rival on the field, Cristiano Ronaldo. Messi is not really a flashy fella and even less so with his cars, but he does still have a few fantastic cars in his garage. Here are five of our favourites, from most impressive to sad:

1) Ferrari 335 S Spider Scaglietti (maybe)

In 2016, this 1957 Ferrari 335 S Spider Scaglietti - one of only four ever made - sold for £25 million at the auction at Artcurial in Paris. It has a 4.1-litre V12 engine that could churn out a massive 400 hp that propels it to a top speed of 190 mph, which was incredibly impressive back in the fifties. Some of the world's best drivers, such as the likes of Mike Hawthorne and Stirling Moss, has taken the wheel of this beauty before.

The buyer, however, remains a mystery, but rumours say that it was Messi who outbid Ronaldo to secure what would become the most expensive car to be sold at auction.

Messi even posted a picture on his Instagram account (top image) posing with a Lightning McQueen toy car, also red like the Spider, and the caption "My new car".

2) Ferrari F430 Spider

Messi's custom gray Ferrari churns out 503bhp and reaches a top speed just short of 200mph. While the £173,000 that he paid for it may be a fortune to most of us, someone did the math and concluded that Messi only needed to play 31 minutes and 32 seconds of football to pay the car off. (Sigh. We can't even afford lunch.)

3)  Maserati Granturismo MC Stradale

This Maserati is one of Messi's "mid-priced" cars...well, relative to his collection. It is powered by a 4.7-liter V8 engine that produces 444hp, and can complete the century sprint in 4.5 seconds and on to a top speed of 186 mph. Messi doesn't own this one anymore though. Besides, he prefers...

4) Range Rover Vogue

The Argentinian footballer actually prefers the comfort and practicality of a premium SUV to get around in his everyday life. Range Rovers seem to be a favourite of celebrities, not just those from the world of football. Maybe it's because they can lord over others on the road...

5) Toyota Prius

Don't you hemp-trouser-wearers get your grass-panties in a knot. We're not the only one who is laughing at this weakling amongst the beasts. Toyota apparently gifted a Prius to Messi after he won the MVP award at the 2011 World Cup in Japan. (We're not paying for the picture, so go here to see a fresher faced Messi posing awkwardly next to the vehicle.) But hey, the plug-in hybrid has great fuel economy and for less than £25,000, you can proudly and correctly boast that you own the same car as Messi.

Can't even own a Prius? Well, here's something you can get for free and with very little effort. Our sponsors over at X-1R is giving away signed jerseys by Messi, as well as Ronaldo and Neymar! Head on over the contest page to find out how:
