Over a month ago, we wrote about Elon Musk announcing that he was going to send his Tesla Roadster into orbit. The man, who has an affinity to do the extreme, will now be launching his car, strapped to Space X’s Falcon Heavy rocket...in a few hours.
Tesla’s CEO tweeted this:
Falcon Heavy remains go for launch at 1:30pm on Tuesday— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) February 5, 2018
He posted a photo on his Twitter account with the caption “Starman in Red Roadster”. It is said that the car will be playing David Bowie’s “Space Oddity” when it enters Mar's orbit, where the car will remain for a billion years!
The Falcon Heavy is one of the most powerful rockets, capable of lifting more than 119,000 pounds. Its purpose is to one day transport people to Mars, and beyond.
The rocket will take off from the Apollo launchpad at Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Florida, barring any unforeseen circumstances. Will a Tesla be the first car in space? We’ll find out soon.
We leave you with a quote from Elon Musk to help understand why he does what he does:
“You shouldn’t do things differently just because they’re different. They need to be…better.”
