Breaking any record deserves praise. But breaking a record while being towed by a vehicle, which speed and brakes are out of your control, and risking smashing into the back of the car, is another matter altogether. Briton Jamie Barrow recently did just that when he smashed his own Guinness World Record speed on a snowboard while being towed by a vehicle—this time, it was the Maserati Levante.

The Levante barrelled across the beautiful frozen lake of St. Moritz, Switzerland, and Barrow clocked an average speed of 149.65 km/h for the world record. As in such record attempts, he was given two runs, which are then averaged out for the final record. In his previous record in 2016, he clocked 99.87 km/h. This time, it was almost fifty kilometers faster!

“I’m absolutely delighted to have broken my own record. I always knew there was much more speed possible with the right conditions and crucially the right car to tow me. The Maserati Levante made light work of the icy and snowy conditions, giving us the grip to really hit top speed. The adrenalin rush is always amazing when you hit those speeds – I’m just happy I was able to hold my nerve, keep the snowboard in line and ultimately smash the World Record,” said Barrow.

The SUV was fitted with Pirelli Scorpion Winter tyres, each covered with 474 4mm-long studs for the best possible grip on the lake.

Levante’s high-tech Q4 Intelligent All-Wheel Drive System coupled with EPS, and many other advanced technologies, improve the car’s handling, comfort and better supports the driving modes.

Jacob Nyborg, Head of Marketing for Maserati S.p.A. commented, ‘What a fantastic effort from Jamie to break the World Record. As soon as we spoke to him about this attempt, we knew it was something we had to be involved with. The new Maserati Levante SUV has performance at its heart, so this was the perfect way to show its off-road capabilities, while helping Jamie break a new Guinness World Record. We are excited to see what the future holds for Jamie and hope we can help him reach even greater speeds in the future – what an incredible athlete.”
