Railways is still looking towards the future of rail travel. It recently
released details of routes and prices for its new-era, exclusive luxury
train, the “Train Suite Shiki-Shima”. The train takes you between Tokyo
Ueno Station and the northern part of Japan, starting from May 2017.
Here's a first look at the exciting things to come from Japan Railways!
This 10-coach luxury train features observation coaches at the front and rear, one lounge coach, one dining coach, and six coaches devoted to private suites, including one that holds a Deluxe Suite and a uber high-class “Shiki-Shima Suite".
The designer, Ken Kiyoyuki Okuyama is an award-winning industrial designer, who has previously designed buildings, furniture, eyewear, robots and..well, trains, and is also known as the best designer of Ferrari automobiles.
The train can carry up to 34 passengers, so this ride comes with a hefty pricetag. A 3-night/4-day ticket will cost between 740,000 – 770,000 Yen for a standard suite; the Deluxe Suite ranges from 890,000 – 900,000 Yen, and the Shiki-Shima Suite will set you back 940,000 – 950,000 Yen. Additionally, passengers will be charged individually, and since the rooms are designed with a capacity for two, the total price for two travellers could come to somewhere around 1 million to 2 million Yen. Although it is possible to travel aboard alone, the price range for an individual suite is still between 1.1 million to 1.6 million Yen for a 1-night/2-day trip: individual tickets are priced between 320,000 – 450,000 Yen, and booking a suite for individual use will cost you around 480,000 yen.
