It has been staring us in the face for years. There have been small scale attempts to harvest methane (et al.) from animal waste, but now the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL), a US Government research centre, believes it may have cracked the process of turning the 34 billion gallons of waste we carelessly flush away each day into an endless renewable energy resource.

We cannot just put sewage into the tank. We have to change it both physically and chemically, and until now this has been the challenge. We could write an long-winded science piece about the process but there is a neat little video to briefly explain what it is that PNNL has done. Give it a watch and then ask when will your government take the leap into sewage.
