Automologist LING reports on the third Proton sedan launched this year...'cause we always need more sedans, right?
The Saga is the Malaysian national carmaker’s best-selling model and was the first car it ever put out on the road more than three decades ago; in Malaysia, the name Saga has become synonymous with the car, that I almost forget that I had spent my childhood picking the seeds, from which the name originates, for no other reason than to store them in a jar.
But I digress…
So our Youth and Sports Minister, Khairy Jamaluddin, unveiled the car at the launch yesterday. Here he is...
…when our badminton hero, Dato' Lee Chong Wei, beat his archrival, Lin Dan, at the 2016 Rio Olympics (big boys do cry…but only over sports).
Here he is, posing with the new Saga:
You must be thinking what the YOUTH and SPORTS Minister is doing launching cars. Doesn't he have more athletes to groom?
Well, apparently this is part of Proton's new strategy to boost sales for the Saga, by targetting YOUNGSTERS with RM3,000-4000 monthly income.
With a 9-year loan, at 4% interest rate, you can get the entry level Saga for about RM400 a month.
Is this "get 'em while they are young" thinking the way forward for the Saga and the rest of the Proton brand? Well, if so, then Khairy is the pop star of politics among the local youths and if they were to follow any leader, it would be him.
What I'd like to know is how youngsters are earning three to four thousand ringgit a month, and why did I waste my youth picking worthless saga seeds instead?

I'd choose the red one...because...well...the saga seed is red. I'm simple-minded like that. |
