Rednecks use Corvette as Ram Raider

Automologist MAC reports on an unwitting accomplice to a crime.

Trolling through the internet as I do most lunch times, I came across what is possibly the most redneck of all burglaries, ever. Early one morning this week, thieves used a stolen limited edition 1996 Collector’s Edition Corvette in Sebring Silver to smash through the front of a gun store in Louisville, Kentucky. They then made off with an undisclosed number of guns. All you have to do is add in a Louisville Slugger Shirt and a bottle of Kentucky’s finest moonshine, and this would be the most redneck of crimes, perhaps.

Battered and bruised, and with a few gunshot holes.
Fibreglass or not, the Chevrolet proved to be tough enough to get into the store, where it remained, upside down, for the police to find, although the perpetrators had long fled the scene of the crime. A ram raid is a form of smash-and-grab, whereby thieves use a vehicle to ‘crash’ their way into a premise. Normally a heavy vehicle like a pick-up truck would be used, and thus a small fibreglass-bodied Corvette would be consider by most an unusual car for a ram raid.

The owner of the store, Tilford’s Discount Guns - named so, I assume, so you will not confuse it with Tilford's Full Priced Guns - is doing a stock-take to determine how many guns the thieves had managed to get away with.

The City of Louisville is very close to the town of Bowling Green, where the Corvette was made between 1983 and 1996, and also where a couple of years ago a sink hole opened up and swallowed a number of classic Corvettes.
