McLaren may have had a problematic F1 season with the new Honda engines, but that doesn’t mean it can’t imagine a future concept for the motorsport. Red Bull had the X1, Ferrari came up with its own F1 concept and even a few independent designers have proposed how future McLaren F1 cars could be like.

This McLaren MP4-X, however, was built in Woking (where McLaren is headquartered) and is a very impressive proposition. Group Brand Director of the McLaren Technology Group, John Allert said “With the futuristic McLaren MP4-X concept racecar, we wanted to peer into the future and imagine the art of the possible.”

He continue, “We have combined a number of F1’s key ingredients – speed, excitement and performance, with the sport’s emerging narratives - such as enclosed cockpits to enhance driver safety, and hybrid power technologies”.

With life often imitating art in the automotive world, maybe F1 will break the mold and take the leap into the future this-a-way:
