Good news has emerged from Rüsselsheim for Opel enthusiasts as the current generation Astra has become the most efficient C-segment car in the carmaker’s history, all thanks to the new 1.6-litre CDTI engine.

Improved combustion process has helped achieve lower emission numbers and better fuel economy - the 110hp 1.6 CDTI model will have an average consumption of 3.6 litres per 100km and CO2 emissions of 94g/km. The optimized drive shafts and better low rolling resistance tires also contribute to the improved numbers. Sure, it's not a big improvement (just lower by 0.1L/100km) but every bit counts and the environment will still thank you for it.

The 136hp variant consumes just 3.7 liters per 100km (that’s a 0.2L/100 km improvement), while discharging just 99g/km of CO2 emissions.
