What can you do while waiting to cross a street and also potentially to make new friends? How about a game of Pong?
What started as a fictional project by students from the HAWK University for Applied Sciences and Arts in Hildesheim is becoming a reality. ActiWait consists of screens fitted on the poles of the traffic lights, on which a pedestrian can play a quick game of the classic seventies arcade game with another person waiting on the other side of the road, until it is safe to cross.
The idea was intended to prevent people from crossing when inappropriate and to also encourage actual human interaction in a time when most people would prefer to have their noses stuck on their phones or tablets.
The founders of ActiWait are trying to crowdsource for funds, so if you are often bored while waiting for the pedestrian light to turn green, now you can do something about it.
