Auto World Takes On ALS Ice Bucket Challenge

Unless you've been living under a rock, you've probably noticed the ALS ice bucket challenge trending on social media. Although we're not sure what emptying a bucket of freezing water on yourself has to do with the neurodegenerative disease, we hear that the hype has helped the ALS Association collect more than US$40 million in donation in less than a month. Even famous personalities from the auto world has partaken in this worthy cause, which we have gathered here for your amusement:-

Firstly....

Elon Musk has to be the first in everything; he was one of the first few famous personalities to take up the challenge. Being the technopreneur that he is, of course he couldn't just do it with a plain ol' bucket but devised a contraption that required the help of his five sons:

 

Formula One racers took a break from the tracks and...

Felipe Massa completed his challenge WITHOUT his shirt, but WITH a yelp and a dash:

He nominated Daniel Ricciardo and Fernando Alonso, which led to...

...Alonso getting drenched while fully suited up:

Ricciardo nominated Lewis Hamilton, who carried it out in a nonchalant manner, as if getting doused in cold liquid happens to him all the time...must be all that GH Mumm champagne he pours on himself after each victory:

The President of Toyota, Akio Toyoda, conducted himself with much dignity as he shared the loss of a close friend, who was a colleague at Toyota, to the disease. After someone (we presume he is a Toyota employee) empties a huge amount of water over the President (we wonder if the employee apologised profusely to the big boss after that), he went on to nominate Nissan's Vice Chairman, Toshiyuki Shiga.

Julie Hamp, the CCO of Toyota North America, had lost her sister-in-law to the disease and took the opportunity to promote the cause...and the Toyota FCV. Of course, a fuel cell vehicle only emits water, which the Toyota staff collected from the exhaust of the FCV to top up the bucket of ice water before dumping it on Hamp.

Mary Barra, who has been facing many challenges at work, took on this lighter challenge and perhaps a welcomed respite. Nothing like a splash of cold water to refresh you...
