Siblings often share a "love-hate" relationship. They can put you down, tease you, compete with you yet encourage you, all at the same time. This is exactly what Audi has done to Porsche, both subsidiaries of Volkwagen, as the latter returns to Le Mans this weekend. The video clip begins at the Audi HQ in Ingolstadt, where a driver climbs into a Audi R18 E-Tron Quattro racer, and sets off on a journey which destination is at first unbeknownst to the viewer. The Audi machine then enters Stuttgart and arrives at Porsche’s HQ, where it proceeds to burn rubber to imprint a ‘Welcome Back’ message onto the asphalt (makes sky-writing seem passe).

Porsche will be making its comeback with the 919 Hybrid, which was designed entirely in-house. The marque still holds the record for highest number of wins at Le Mans, having had 16 victories since 1970; their last win, however, was 16 years ago. Audi has won all but two Le Mans races from 2000 to 2013, and it is not going to give up its coveted spot easily, not even to its sibling.

PS – Did you realise that the slow red tractor overtaken by the R18 E-Tron Quattro was a Porsche tractor? A less than subtle, cheeky put-down!
