Earlier this month, Audi teased us with an unexpected TT-based SUV concept. It is only a concept for now, but showcases what Audi could achieve with the TT.
"The off-road concept provides a glimpse of how we might imagine a new model in the future TT family," explained Audi's Technical Chief, Dr Ulrich Hackenberg.
"The off-road concept provides a glimpse of how we might imagine a new model in the future TT family," explained Audi's Technical Chief, Dr Ulrich Hackenberg.
Audi calls the hunk of yellow metal the TT “off-road concept”, but such a vehicle seems an unnecessary and even unusual addition to the TT line-up. Still, the German automaker believes that they should further develop the TT marque beyond coupes and convertibles.
The off-road concept is powered by a powerplant that consists of a 2-litre petrol-powered turbocharged V4 engine, a 40kW electric motor and a 85kW electric motor mounted on the rear axle, for a total output of 408hp. It also includes a lithium-ion battery which stores up to 12 kWh of energy and allows the vehicle to run for up to 50km in electric mode. A disc-shaped electric motor is combined with the six-speed e‑S Tronic dual-clutch transmission. This TT off-road concept can accelerate from stationary to 62mph in 5.2 seconds (less time than the TT-S Coupe requires), and can reach an electronically limited top speed of 155mph.
It appears as if the Audi is serious about expanding the TT brand, but should it be with an SUV or should TT just stick to sports cars?
