And Nissan is #1

The Chinese Association of Automobile Manufacturers is reporting that most Japanese auto manufacturers are experiencing a double digit surge in sales for year on year figures until September. Sales for all Japanese vehicles sales tanked this time last year after rising anger in China over Japan's purchase of the Diaoyu islands, which deterred patriotic car buyers from visiting Japanese car showrooms there.

Honda has reported a surge of 118% year on year and sales of 73 990 vehicles. Japan's largest car maker, Toyota, sold slightly fewer vehicles at 72 100 but this is still up some 63%. Somewhat surprisingly, Nissan is leading the Japanese makers league table with a total reported at 117 100 vehicles, which is an increase of 83.4%.

Industry analysts are quick to point out that the high sales growth should be attributed to the low sales base in September of 2012 when the dispute was most acute. However, Japanese automakers made highly visible efforts to win over the general public, showing their new models at the Chengdu Auto Show in September.
