With the euphoria of a new government in Malaysia and a slew of announcements and immediate changes, many folks as well as organisations are mobilizing their efforts to assist in reducing the country’s RM1 trillion (approx. US$251 billion) debt.

The Tabung Harapan (Hope Fund) was initiated by the public to help the nation to reduce its ghastly amount of debt. As of 3rd June, the fund collected total over RM30,000,000.00 (approx. US$7.5 million).

Now, national carmaker Proton has also pledged to donate RM10 (US$ 2.51) to the fund for every Proton car sold from 1st June to 31st December 2018.

Based on last year’s sales of 70,991 units sold, you get an estimation of how much the carmaker could be donating.

Proton is also looking to capitalise on the federal government’s abolishment of the 6% GST (Goods & Services Tax) that begun on the 1st June.

Citizens can now own a Proton Saga for less than RM30,000 in conjunction with the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

Car companies across the board have relished the news and revised pricing of all models, hoping to attract new buyers during this honeymoon period, before the government reverts back to the SST (Sales & Services Tax) on 1st September.

But with Geely now a strategic partner of Proton, an SUV to be launched in December and with new people at the helm to turn things around, this looks like a positive year for Proton.
