Porsche. What can I say that’s not already been said. Nothing really. When you are a symbol of everything good and beautiful about life, you’ve made it. Sime Darby Auto Performance (SDAP) just launched the Porsche 911 GT3 in Bangsar Shopping Centre. It is the darling right now. As it should be.

This new 911 GT3 narrows the gap between daily driving and track weapon performance, as all Porsches are, really. Porsche's marketing campaign goes: “Every Porsche—from the 911 and 718 to the Panamera, Cayenne and Macan—shares the same racing heritage that began on the track more than 65 years ago. In other words, every Porsche we've ever built is a sportscar, and we've built nothing else since 1948.”

I drove a Cayenne some time back and I could instantly feel the grunt it had. A base line version at that! Well, some would say, “You can’t really feel anything in a base line model”… “Oh, it’s not a real Porsche”…“It’s just their cash cow”. To all those haters, I would say “Go have a test drive!”. Do you think Porsche would spend tons of cash on R&D on the Cayenne if it couldn’t honour its racing heritage?

Now, back to the 911 GT3. If you ever want to get a sportscar that can be driven daily to work or to get groceries and then take it to the track with your buddies, the 911 is the car to get. The 911 GT3, however, raises the bar a bit more in terms of performance.

This newly launched beast, derived from the full-blooded 911 GT3 Cup racing car, with a naturally aspirated engine and a practically unchanged gearbox, cranks out a massive a 500bhp. It was developed on the same test track and manufactured on the same production line as its racing cars and a four-litre flat engine is at the heart of it.

“The new 911 GT3 wears an aggressive rear wing, a giant air intake, and also big wheels sheltered by widened fenders. There is no mistaking the 911 GT3 delivers motorsport-like performance,” said Arnt Bayer, Chief Executive Officer of SDAP. “The new 911 GT3 not only provides impressive performance on the racetrack, but it also offers the best driving dynamics for your everyday driving."

There is something primitive yet blissful about stick shift driving and for those devotees, this 911 GT3 is now offered with a six-speed sports manual gearbox. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds and hits a top speed of 320 km/h. A seven-speed double-clutch transmission (PDK) comes as standard. As I've mentioned, it was developed on the same test track as its racing brethren, so it is no surprise then that tuning has been altered to elevate the driving dynamics. Adding to that fact, the car is lower by 2.5cm compared to the 911 Carrera S, which truly gives you that track weapon feeling.

It comes with rear-axle steering, which means that, depending on your speed, it steers either in the opposite or the same direction as the front wheels, thereby improving the vehicle’s agility and stability. The dynamic engine mounts and the rear differential lock also boost the car’s driving dynamics. No excuse for not improving your lap times :D

The interior has no fancy-schmancy stuff but is perfectly functional. Heck, that’s what a missile is intended to do right? (Just get on with the job, will ya?). With a diameter of 360mm, the GT sports steering wheel, derived from the 918 Spyder, gives you superb grip and, what's more, that world famous five-dial dashboard staring at you which seems to say “Go ahead, make my day” (uttered by Clint Eastwood in a scene from Dirty Harry).

As for the seats, both driver and passenger have side bolsters and mechanical fore/aft adjustment. With the Porsche emblem proudly embossed on the headrest and 'GT3’ nicely placed on the lumbar area, it certainly livens up the cabin. There are three additional seat variants for the 911 GT3: the adaptive Sports Seats Plus boasts electrical adjustment of all seat functions (18-way); the sports bucket seats with folding backrest, integrated thorax airbag and manual fore/aft adjustment; and the full bucket seats made from light carbon fibre-reinforced plastic in carbon-weave finish.

The appearance with the distinguishable carbon rear wing, with the figure ‘4.0’ strategically placed, accentuates the fact that the 911 GT3’s form is determined by aerodynamics. The lightweight front end and front spoiler have been optimised for an even better airflow. The aerodynamic enhancement is also evident on the lightweight rear end with exhaust air openings and on the new diffusor. #Sexxayy

In addition to the Porsche Communication Management (PCM) including an online navigation module with real-time traffic information, the standard equipment also includes the Connect Plus module and the Track Precision app. The Track Precision app enables 911 GT3 drivers to display, record and analyse detailed driving data on their smartphone.

The retail base price for the new 911 GT3 starts from RM1,700,000.00, which includes all applicable duties, except registration fee, road tax and insurance.
