In an article by The Star, it was reported that the Selangor state government plans to have its state executive councillors move around during their daily commute of speaking to the rakyat, solving issues, getting projects underway and the likes in electric cars. The plan is to proceed with this initiative once their current vehicles are due for replacement.

This is a good way to promote the use of electric vehicles as Malaysia plans to be a marketing hub for electric vehicles (EV) by 2030, which is the country’s main target under the National Electric Mobility Blueprint (EMB).
GreenTech Malaysia, a government agency under the guidance of the Ministry of Energy, Green Technology and Water, is planning to set up a countrywide network of public charging stations for electric vehicles—25,000 in all—within the next five years. That will definitely help with getting juice for one’s drive. What better way to promote it than our leaders showing the way, right?
Elizabeth Wong, chairperson of the State Environment Committee, told the house that the move was in line with the state’s low carbon policy initiative. Four of the Smart Selangor buses already in use are also electric vehicles. Selangor state has the highest number of EV Box (electric vehicle charging solutions) in the Asean region. No mean feat. And that 109 of them were at 88 areas in Petaling Jaya, Subang Jaya and Kajang.
“The local authorities there introduced free car days in their areas in line with the low carbon city initiative. Some of them also introduced the green development action plan that required developers to follow certain guidelines in their development projects. The state together with the local authorities are working towards achieving a low-carbon environment,” she said.
She also added that by 2030, four areas in the state would be transformed into green cities. Well, that’s a good start folks.
