Automologist ATHERTON brings us news on how Daihatsu is helping budding entrepreneurs.

Daihatsu is known for its small easy-to-use vehicles with sturdy engines; they are actually popular vehicles. I remember we used to have a Daihatsu Charade and it was extremely nippy and my mum had no issue with parking. We used it for practically anything and everything, including taking our two huge German Shepherds to the vet!

That’s how versatile they are. Daihatsus are known as kei cars, meaning ‘light automobile’. In Japan, a kei is categorized as "small vehicles", and it includes passenger cars, vans and trucks. Recently, Daihatsu (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd. (DMSB), handed over 22 units of brand new Daihatsu Gran Max ‘TRUCK-PRENEUR’ to GIATMARA MALAYSIA.

Jamal Nasir bin Othman (Ketua Pegawai Eksekutif, GIATMARA), En. Azizan bin Bedin (Pengarah Bahagian Pembangunan Usahawan, GIATMARA), En Amran bin Awang (Pengarah GIATMARA Negeri Sembilan), En Azman bin A.Samad (Pengarah GIATMARA Wilayah Persekutuan), En Nazurin bin Osman (Pengarah GIATMARA Selangor)

22 local entrepreneurs from GIATMARA had graduated and these vehicles are to be used as a platform to assist these budding entrepreneurs. They have completed both technical and vocational trainings under GIATMARA’s entrepreneurship programme, and they will be on their way to create businesses that will help spur the industry.

There are many courses offered by GIATMARA, which is under MARA, an agency under the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development (KKLW). The courses they have are Electrical, Mechanical, and Transportation among others.

The Daihatsu Gran Max ‘TRUCK-PRENEUR’ is powered by 1.5-litre DVVT engine delivering power with economy, and has more torque at lower revs. A small turning radius of 4.7m means greater manoeuverability in tight spaces. It also comes with ABS, power steering and dual-sided access. Transmission is a 5-speed manual.

This is really handy for industrious entrepreneurs as the Gran Max is recognized for its reliability, durability and economical operation.

“Our main objective remains in strengthening ‘Daihatsu’ as one of the top of mind recall brands in commercial vehicles within the Malaysian SME community. We hope that this collaboration will be able to boost public, specially those up and coming entrepreneurs’ confidence towards the effectiveness in mobility and utility of these mobile café pickups for any business purposes,” says Dr. Iqbal Shaharom, DMSB's Managing Director.

Daihatsu Malaysia hopes to be able to continue providing a bigger volume of fleet support to GIATMARA in future through this significant partnership. We wish all the rising entrepreneurs the very best of success.
