Scammers are everywhere. Any way that can help make them a quick buck or two, they’re game. In Malaysia, where homegrown Daihatsu-backed car brand, Perodua, has the largest market share, unscrupulous people have been taking advantage of its popularity. According to a media report, the Police have arrested a man who posed as a Perodua
sales representative to sell Perodua vehicles on a popular online marketplace portal, resulting in victims losing tens of thousands of ringgit.
Perodua Sales Sdn Bhd Managing Director Dato’ Dr Zahari Husin urged the public to be vary of such scams and too-good-to-be-true deals.
"This scam involved the sale of new Perodua vehicles as well as Perodua Pre-Owned Vehicles (POV). Perodua and the affected parties lodged a police report on the matter and are extending our full cooperation to the relevant authorities. Perodua urges the public to be cautious in order to avoid becoming victims of such scams,” he said.
He also urged the public to make payments to Perodua Sales Sdn Bhd or its authorised dealers, and insist on original receipts when making any payments.
“We would like to inform the public that at present, genuine Perodua Certified POV cars are only available for sale at our Perodua Kuala Lumpur outlet located along Jalan Pahang,” said Dr Zahari.
The Perodua POV business began in October 2017, offering a 165-point-check and 18-month warranty for engine and transmission. These pre-loved cars are refurbished by Perodua themselves.
Be mindful when you buy a car (or anything for that matter). Make sure you’ve checked that offer or deal properly and there is a genuine company backing it.
