Automologist ATHERTON gets a chance meeting with rare beauty.

Earlier this week, I went for a meeting at G-Mart Corporation and while I was there, I spotted a rare Daihatsu Copen Cero in the showroom. This car is so rare here in Malaysia because only a handful of units were brought onto our shores.

It was first previewed in the Tokyo Auto Show way back in 2013 and in 2014, it sold like hot cakes in Japan, to the tune of 4,000 a month!

The unit in G-Mart was a pearl white 2015 model. The car is small, yes, but it is also unique because if you were driving it through town, you can bet your bottom dollar that you won't see another one! (No car clubs gathering for you, though.)

The dashboard layout, as with most Japanese cars, is well placed even though cabin space is minimal. Getting my frame into the car was not that difficult. The Copen Cero comes with electrically controlled two-piece folding hardtop which opens up in under 20 seconds—just press the button between the seats and presto!

The 660cc Copen Cero has a front engine, front wheel drive layout that churns out a modest 64hp and 92Nm of torque. Paired with an automatic CVT gearbox, this car is not the corner-carving roadster you’d think it is, but more of a leisurely drive,  fun car that gets you from point A to B, with many onlookers to boot.

There is also a green unit in another of G-mart’s showroom in Sg. Ramal, if white is not your preference. With a 3-year APEG warranty and a service centre to cater to its needs, getting a Copen Cero has never been easier. The car is priced at RM132,000.00 and you could speak to any of the sales consultant for a good deal.

G-Mart Corporation Sdn Bhd is one of the Malaysia’s leading automotive companies. An importer and exporter of new and used vehicles, it has auction houses under its roof. It is an authorized dealer for Perodua, Proton, Honda and Toyota, to name a few. G-Mart Corporation is headed by the dynamic Dato’ Wahid Lasiman who serves as its Managing Director.
