The new and exclusive MINI John Cooper Works Clubman and MINI John Cooper Works Countryman come to Malaysian shores, making their debut at the 2017 MINI Track Days in Sepang.
Are you Team Clubman?
...or Team Countryman?
With the JWC Clubman, you get the signature split rear doors, while the JWC Countryman gives you the power to go off-road in some ulu parts of Malaysia where adventure (or mosquitoes) awaits.
Let's start with the price because we know that MINIs are far from affordable in Malaysia. The JCW Clubman will set you back starting from RM328,888 while the JCW Countryman starts from RM20,000 more. But Malaysians who drive MINIs don't buy MINIs because they are cheap. If we have to explain to you why, then you probably wouldn't understand. So, moving on...
Both variants are fitted with AWD system and have under the hood a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder turbo engine, spewing out 231hp and 350 Nm of torque; it propels the JCW Clubman from standstill too 100kph in just 6.3 seconds and does the same for the JCW Countryman in 6.5 seconds. The engine is mated to an 8-speed sports automatic transmission and manual shifting can be done via the steering wheel paddles.
Both have the look of speed…the eponymous man was a racing legend after all. Both sport on their exterior JCW’s Aerodynamic Bodykit, 19-inch Course Spoke wheels, grille, side scuttles and door sill. Contrasting the dark panels are chilli red roof, mirror caps and body stripes. The red accents continue on the inside, most evidently on the seats, which provide added lateral support at those sharp corners...you know, when you drive Malaysian-style.
Drivers can switch between SPORT, MID and GREEN modes, which would change the characteristic curves of the accelerator pedal and steering, the engine acoustics, and the shift characteristics of the sports transmission. If you’re the type to keep it in SPORT mode, and most MINI drivers are, otherwise why get one, you’ll get high-performance braking with the Brembo 4-piston fixed caliper disc brakes.
We want one. We're just 328,887 ringgit short.
