Peugeot 3008 DKR, inspired by the all popular 3008 SUV.

This will be the latest Peugeot Race SUV that will participate in the Dakar rally event in 2017. Peugeot 3008 DKR made its debut at the Paris Motor Show in 2016, after being intensively worked on in Velizy, France. The Peugeot 3008 DKR is powered by a twin-turbo V6 diesel engine with a cubic capacity of 3 litres, pushing out 340 brake horsepower with an impressive torque reading of 796 Nm.

Power is streamed to the rear wheels through a six-speed sequential transmission. For stopping power, the DKR comes fitted with a set of 355mm oversized ventilated discs on all four wheels.

Surprisingly, this new Peugeot 3008 DKR is to be powered using only its two rear wheels, sticking loyal to Peugeot’s two-wheel drive philosophy, although the road going version comes with a frugal 4-cylinder 1600cc THP engine, spewing its power through the front wheels. This would probably be the only Dakar win for a two-wheel-drive car in 15 years, proving that you don’t necessarily need a four-wheel-drive to conquer the toughest landscapes in the world.

This Race SUV uses a specially designed spaceframe chassis, which is rigid and light for speeding through the fast terrains in the desert. The frame is made of composite carbon fibre and uses a double wishbone suspension with double coil-overs, and a lot of work put in on the geometry and dampers.
