Honda showed off the next generation Civic Sedan at the YouTube Space LA last Wednesday, and it was livestreamed for the world to see. The tattooed and beanie-wearing crowd cheered on, more for the band than the car, probably, but Honda is still stoked about the Civic, 10 generations on.

Under the hood of the LX variant is a 2.0-litre, naturally aspirated VTEC 4-cylinder, which Honda claims is the most powerful base engine ever for this longtime model, and there is also the turbocharged 1.5-litre Honda engine in the more premium EX-T, EX-L and Touring variants. It will be Honda’s first ever turbo engine in the US.

The Civic has always been a practical choice, but sales in the US from January to August 2015 has fallen 4% with buyers opting for the compact crossover SUV instead. So, Honda has made a lot of effort to add a bit of luxury to the Civic. The exterior looks sleeker and the interior feature better materials. The seats are lower, for a more sporty experience, and there are two inches more legroom in the back compared to the outgoing model. Automatic climate control comes standard with all models and there is a long list of luxury features that come as options, including a new 7” HD touchscreen system.

Another thing that is new with the Civic is that it will be available, besides the sedan version, as a coupe and five-door hatchback.
