Some say it was possibly the most boring of all 46 Canadian GP races since 1967, and that the most exciting part of last Sunday was when a groundhog dashed across the tracks mid-race. However, Lewis Hamilton would probably disagree.

Hamilton can now put the miserable Monaco race behind him as he cruised from pole to victory, unchallenged, not even by his Mercedes teammate, Nico Rosberg, who followed his tail.

Rosberg said, “I was pushing like mad to try and put the pressure on, but he didn’t make any mistakes, so fair play. Second place is still OK.”

Two weeks ago, Hamilton was deprived of victory in Monaco when his team’s gaffe caused him to lose what had seemed like a sure win. He was called in for a late tyre change under a safety car, which handed the victory to Rosberg on a silver platter.

For the first time this season, a car that was not from Mercedes or Ferrari had a podium finish - Williams' Valtteri Bottas took third place in Canada. Sebastian Vettel, who had a poor qualifying and was given a penalty, started from 18th place on the grid. Still, he valiantly battled his way to fifth, despite an early pit stop and near collision with a Force India car, finishing just behind Ferrari teammate, Kimi Raikkonen.

“We didn’t get to see Ferrari’s true pace, but I think we will in the next races,” said Hamilton.
