After seeing California Senate leader, Kevin de Leon, crush a Capitol truck to promote a new pilot rebate programme that helps low-income families convert to greener, cleaner vehicles, Arnold Schwarzenegger a.k.a The Terminator sent de Leon an open video message to show the senator the ‘right’ way to terminate a car.
Arnie lauds the green car efforts, but thinks that just crushing a pickup doesn’t have the impact that the programme needs. He said, “…let me show you my style of getting rid of dirty cars.” The video cuts to him shooting off a bazooka at a helpless Cadillac in the distance - a beautiful explosion ensues.
The short clip is actually an excerpt from another of Arnie’s charity causes, which we are tickled to hear is simply called “Blow sh*t up with Arnold”. The campaign is hosted by Omaze, a charity organisation that raises money by raffling opportunities to spend time with Hollywood celebrities. Those who want to spend a day blowing stuff up with the Terminator simply have to donate US$10 to be in the running to win. Proceeds go to supporting after-school programmes, which in turn will help improve students’ academic performances, reduce juvenile delinquency and improve the community overall.
According to the promo video for “Blow sh*t up…”, the car that was decimated belonged to Arnie’s neighbour, Eric Stonestreet, of Modern Family fame who made a cameo appearance.
Obviously it was all scripted and just a hilarious publicity stunt. We think that it's funny as hell.
This is not the first time that the former senator of California has demolished things for a good cause. In the past, he had also offered a day of hanging out with him, riding in his tank and crushing “something”, working out and smoking cigars together. Sounds like a perfect day to us.
Sure, de Leon rebutted and pointed out that Arnie’s way is not exactly the best for the environment and doesn’t allow for recycling, but we sure like Arnie’s way so so much more.
