Lewis Hamilton is gathering momentum towards his third F1 world championship title after another easy win in the Bahrain GP, while his main rival and teammate, Nico Rosberg, has to look out for the very real threat posed by the revitalised Ferrari team.

Hamilton cruised, relatively trouble-free, from pole to his third win in the four races so far in the series; he is already 27 points clear of Rosberg and 28 ahead of Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel, the only driver to beat him so far in the 2015 season. Vettel looked set for a podium position until a battle with Rosberg for second damaged his front wing, forcing him to pit; he was eventually placed fifth.

Rosberg finished third behind Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen; a problem with the Mercedes’ brakes in the penultimate lap allowed Raikkonen to step onto the podium for the first time in two years.

"Ferrari gave us a really good run for our money and we will need to keep pushing as a team," Hamilton said. "We're trying to win both championships. So we won't be 100 percent happy because we wanted to finish 1-2.”

To do so, Rosberg will have to step up his game as he has no wins and no poles so far, and the Ferrari’s have been nipping on his tail in every race so far.
