The Lotus PR Blitzkrieg machine seems to be on a bit of a roll at the moment with yet more news. We have already written about the Evora 400 and the Elise 20th Anniversary Special a few days ago and now the boutique British carmaker from the wilds of Norfolk has announced a new Lotus Exige S Club Racer. What is worse is the news came just a few days after we had written that the Elise Anniversary Special would take the place of the previous Club Racer, which it is obviously not going to do.
In true Graham Chapman style, Lotus has taken a light car and made it even lighter - a true featherweight offering that is lighter by 15kg, in fact; a saving created by using new lightweight battery, centre console, doors and sports seats, resulting in a much more nimble car when going through the twisty stuff. There are also upgrades to the aerodynamic package with an improved front splitter, rear wing and flattened underside.
The new Exige has the same supercharged 3.5-litre V6 that pumps out 345bhp, which is enough to power the 1176kg car to 100 kph in 3.8 seconds and then on to a top speed of 275kph. This is all mated to the gearbox that has three settings - Drive, Sport and Race - although the last one could also be labeled ‘complete madness’.
The Lotus website states that the standard features are leather or Alcantara seat trim options, colour-coded stitching on the seats and door cards, colour-coded seat hoops, a sports steering wheel and a matte black distinguishing exterior trim pack. The body colour is available in metallic white, orange, metallic yellow or, for an additional cost, matte black and all of this for a mere US$85,000.
