"The Huracán Super Trofeo is an all-new car built from scratch with a clear racing concept," announced Maurizio Reggiani, Board Member and Director of Research & Development for Automobili Lamborghini. Thus, the next-generation Lamborghini Huracan LP 620-2 Super Trofeo was introduced at The Quail, a motorsports gathering of collectors and enthusiasts at Carmel, California.

The LP620-2 Super Trofeo is the newest addition to the company's one-make 2015 Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo series in Europe, Asia and North America, setting a lofty benchmark for the race series. Initial sales of the Lamborghini Huracan had been strong, and it looks like it will quickly surpass sales of the Gallardo, especially now with the excitement of the Huracan Super Trofeo version to fill the race car slot.

The new racecar has the same 5.2-litre direct-injected V10 engine, but of course it is tuned to generate more power - a maximum power output of 620hp, 18hp more than the road-going version. The vehicle weighs a light 2,800lbs, made up partially by the superlight hybrid carbon fibre and aluminum chassis, lowering the weight to power ratio to a mere 4.5 lbs/hp. The sleek aerodynamic design - which utilises a wide front splitter and adjustable front air intakes, and motorsports-spec rear diffusers and large rear wing - provides better efficiency, traction and downforce.
