It's a looker, but why?
Perhaps BMW is trying to cater to every possible niche requirement in the market, but the new BMW 4-series Gran Coupe is similar to the 4-series Coupe, except it has four doors, a higher roof by 12mm and a longer rear by 112mm and 35-litre more boot space. On the other hand, some liken it to the 3-series sedan, except wider and lower, and has a hatchback configuration.
Nonetheless, it's "stunning looks" and "great practicality" make it a machine that we would love to bring home to meet the family. For RM389,800, we can; if we want to have it all decked out, we can add another RM29,000 for the M Sport Option.
The Gran Coupe is powered by a TwinPower Turbo four-cylinder petrol engine with 180kW (245hp) and 350Nm torque, propelling it from zero to 100kmh in 6.1 seconds. There are features to ensure a smoother ride, including the Adaptive M, which allows the driver to electronically control the shock absorbers according to road conditions, and the Driving Experience Control that adjusts the engine, steering, transmission and chassis in a matter of seconds via the iDrive controller.
The interior houses all that you would expect in the latest BMW models, ie an 8.8-inch LCD display, which is also used for the navigation system, the iDrive controller popping out from the center console and Dakota leather upholstery.
The rear has a 2+1 seating arrangement, but really, it's only comfortable for two. The rear backseat, capable of a 60:40 fold arrangement, can also be laid flat to more than double the boot space. Of course, it features BMW's automated tailgate, which can be opened by swiping a foot under the bumper (you do have to be able to balance momentarily on one foot without falling down).
Well, we suppose that there is no such thing as too many beautiful cars.
