Once again, Lewis Hamilton raced to victory in yesterday’s Formula 1 race in Shanghai, sealing not only his first hat-trick victory but also bringing his tally of Grand Prix wins to 25, on par with racing legends Jim Clark and Niki Lauda.
“Honestly, I just can’t believe how amazing the car is, and how hard everyone has worked. The results we’re getting is a real true showing of all the hard work,” Hamilton said, during the podium interview.
Meanwhile, his Mercedes team mate, Nico Rosberg lagged to as far behind as seventh place, but the championship leader recovered to finish second, despite having issues with the telemetry on his F1 W05.
Rosberg commented, “We had no telemetry so there was no communication between the car and the pits, so they had no idea what was going on on track and that’s why the start was also so bad and a lot of things came together. So I’m pleased with second…”
Sebastian Vettel was able to sneak pass Fernando Alonso while the latter was being distracted by Felipe Massa, but the aggressive Ferrari driver managed to reclaim the third position, giving the team its first podium finish of the season.
Rosberg maintains his championship lead with 79 points, but Hamilton now needs only four points to catch up.
Recently, Nascar team owner, Gene Haas’ application to enter the F1 World Championship had been accepted by the governing body, which will add a twelfth team to the fold. Haas has stated that the team is still deciding whether to enter into the race in 2015 or defer until 2016.
“We need to define our technical partners and then go from there,” said team principal, Günther Steiner. They are presently in talks with Ferrari and Mercedes over engines and Dallara as chassis supplier.
