The run-in to Malaysia’s 14th general election has gotten the whole country waiting in anticipation to determine which party will represent them in guiding the nation. With the frenzy of the elections building up, businesses that cater to car rentals have seen a rise.

When speaking to AstroAwani, businessman Raja Hazamir Raja Jusoh from Terengganu, who runs a car rental business, said that rental have increased two-fold compared to a week ago:

“This past week, there has been an increase of rentals from various parties. Sometimes, 10 to 20 vehicles are booked by political parties and government agencies.”

Raja Hazamir said his business associates in the rental industry have also seen an increase in bookings.

“This is just the early stages. We expect to see a further increase when the naming of candidates takes place on the 28th of April,” he added.

Among the most popular are 4x4 vehicles and vans, which make up the majority of rentals, followed by sedans.

There are also groups that have hired these vehicles in advance to usher voters to polling stations on voting day, 9th May.
